Is it really a deal?
The 24TB external cut is one of the small number of 2026 hard-drive reductions that holds up against tracked history rather than against a raised list price. The internal options at the same capacity mostly do not.
For the cheapest row on this page we have recorded a low of $679.99 on 2026-10-06, across 14 days of our own checks.
2026 is a shortage year for both hard-drive platters and NAND, and several list prices were raised earlier in the year before being discounted during this event. A percentage off a raised list price is not the same as a low, which is why every row here is compared against what we recorded for that exact item instead.
The cheapest new 24 TB listing today works out at $28.33/TB.
Renewed and recertified stock at 24 TB starts at $26.67/TB, with the seller rather than the manufacturer behind the warranty.
The cheapest external route to 24 TB is $28.33/TB, which you would have to open the enclosure to use as a bare drive.
What the verdicts mean

- Cut against Amazon's own reference price, but still above the lowest price we have recorded.
- Not a deal

- No history yet
- We have fewer than seven days of our own price checks for this item.
24TB is the largest capacity where the cost per terabyte is still competitive rather than carrying a density premium. The Expansion Desktop at 24TB saw one of the few genuine hard-drive cuts of the 2026 event, and the internal field, Barracuda 24TB, Exos X24 and IronWolf Pro 24TB, prices well above it. Above this tier every option costs more per terabyte, so if the goal is maximum capacity at a sane rate rather than the fewest drives possible, this page is the end of the line.
Frequently asked questions
Is 24TB the best cost per terabyte available?
Among the large capacities, usually yes, on the external route. The curve turns upward at 26TB and above, so 24TB is the practical ceiling before you start paying a premium for density.
Exos X24 or a 24TB external?
The external is markedly cheaper per terabyte; the X24 gives you a SATA drive with a manufacturer warranty and a data-centre workload rating straight out of the box. The choice is warranty and convenience against cost.
How long does a 24TB drive take to rebuild in a NAS?
A day or more under load, and that window is when a single-parity array is most exposed. At this capacity dual parity or a tested second copy is the sensible configuration.
Is the Barracuda 24TB suitable for a NAS?
It is a desktop line without the vibration tolerance or workload rating of IronWolf or Exos. It works in a single-bay enclosure; for a multi-bay array the NAS-rated models are the right choice.
