Samsung's Pro Plus, SanDisk's Extreme and Extreme Pro, and Lexar's Play and Professional lines cover most of what is worth buying for a camera, a drone, a dash cam or a handheld. Two numbers decide a card and neither is the headline read speed: the sustained write class, which is what a 4K recording actually needs, and the random performance, which is what a console or a Raspberry Pi needs. Capacity above 1TB still carries a steep premium per gigabyte.

Why does this page use cost per gigabyte?
Because a 256GB card priced per terabyte produces a figure nobody shops with. Per gigabyte keeps 128GB, 512GB and 1.5TB cards on the same scale, and the toggle still switches to per terabyte if you want to compare against a drive.
What speed class do I need for 4K video?
Look for V30 or better, which guarantees 30 MB/s sustained writes. The large sequential read figure on the packaging describes offloading footage, not recording it, and a card can advertise 200 MB/s reads while failing a 4K write.
Will any of these cards work in a Nintendo Switch 2?
Only microSD Express cards run Switch 2 games; standard UHS-I cards are rejected for game storage. Our Switch 2 card page tracks the Express models separately, because they are a different product at a different cost per gigabyte.
Are the very large cards good value?
Rarely. Cost per gigabyte usually bottoms out between 256GB and 512GB, and 1TB and 1.5TB cards carry a premium for the density. Two mid-size cards are often cheaper than one large one.
